Elms Libraries Staff
The Elms Library resources include books, videos, on-line databases, and the Internet. To locate materials use the library catalog. Books The book collection includes fiction (805 volumes), paperback fiction (230 volumes), non-fiction (4380 volumes), biography (420 volumes), and reference (700 volumes). We also have a professional development collection for Faculty (90 volumes). Periodicals Daily newspapers, the Akron Beacon Journal and Plain Dealer, are available for use in the library. For research and class work we subscribe to the EBSCOhost database, a database of over 6000 periodicals and newspapers. Please see Mrs. Fahey or Deacon DeFrange for a handy bookmark with all the passwords to access our library databases from your home computer. Videos & DVDs The video library currently comprises approximately 200 titles and our DVD collection is just beginning. There are educational videos as well some for entertainment. Search the catalog for more details of our video and DVD holdings. Following the Holland Family renovation, 23 Windows XP computers are available for student use in the Holland Library and 18 in the Holland Library Annex. Students require a User ID and password to access the ELMSNET Network. Please see Deacon DeFrange for your ELMSNET username and password. All computers have access to the Internet, the Library Catalog and other online databases as well as Microsoft Word, PowerPoint and Excel. There is a dedicated PC available at the book collection for searching the library catalog. All printing should be directed to the Dell Library printers. Students are not to use library computers for email or games during school hours. All students and faculty receive a unique library barcode number generated by our system software and entered by Mrs. Fahey into the SIRSI-Dynix Database for Our Lady of the Elms libraries. This number enables students and faculty to borrow materials from the library. Books, videos and magazines may be borrowed for 2 weeks. An overdue fine, at the rate of 5¢ a day at the Anne M. Holland Library, is charged for all materials returned late.
The photocopier is available for use by all students. Cost is 10¢ per copy. The photocopier accepts 5¢, 10¢ and 25¢ coins. The machine gives change from quarters. If you need to exchange notes for coins please ask at the circulation desk. The reading pit is available for all students to enjoy. Please make use of the comfortable furniture and enjoy its quiet, homey atmosphere. It's there for you. Please observe the Pit Rules when using the Reading Pit! No eating or drinking, no shoes on furniture, no unruly behavior or loud noise. The Elms HS library circulates two carts with laptops and projectors for presentations by students and staff in the classrooms. Keep in mind that there are Smartboards and projectors in most of the HS classrooms and nearly all the ES school classrooms so borrowing these may be unnecessary. See online laptop request form to sign up and reserve your equipment for a presentation in the HS building.
