CURRICULUM - Preschool/Kindergarten


 

 
The Elms Preschool is dedicated to the growth of the whole person within a context of Christian values in a nurturing, learning environment. Children begin the Elms experience in a program that utilizes a comprehensive developmental approach in which they gain a sense of trust and well-being.A multi-sensory curriculum encourages children to develop a sense of self-esteem, to demonstrate cooperative, pro-social behavior and to exhibit a positive attitude toward life.

 

Preschool/Pre-Kindergarten

We offer two multi-day Pre-Kindergarten options for your child:  three days a week and five days a week. These choices are available to accommodate you and your busy schedule, as well as give your child a gradual approach to starting school.

 

The Pre-Kindergarten curriculum includes:

• daily art and music
• sign language
• creative and dramatic play
• cooking experiences
• physical education
• small/large group skills development

Activities in the Preschool program include:

• field trips
• family programs
• visits to the convent
• Feastday and holiday celebrations,          
   Catholic Schools Week celebration, Week
   of the Young Child celebration
• before and after school care
• Diocesan hot lunch program
 

In addition, service is stressed by offering social outreach programs throughout the year such as Thanksgiving food collection, the Giving Tree, Coins for Compassion, and book collections for needy students.

 

The Preschool program is licensed under the State of Ohio Department of Early Childhood Education and follows the Diocese of Cleveland Preschool Guide.

Kindergarten

Our Lady of the Elms is dedicated to making your child's learning experience memorable. Our kindergarten program is designed to help your child build a strong learning foundation.

 

Teachers create hands-on activities for a vast curriculum which includes:
• reading
• math
• art
• music
• foreign language
• sign language
• religion
• social studies
• science
• health
• physical education
• computer technology

Activities in the Kindergarten program include:

• field trips
• Daisy Scouts program
• intergenerational program with Rockynol
   Retirement Center
• Feastday and holiday celebrations, Catholic
   Schools Week celebration, Week of the
   Young Child celebration
• Eucharistic liturgies/prayer services
• before and after school care
• Diocesan hot lunch program

The Kindergarten program is included with the North Central Accreditation of the Elms Elementary and High School. The Kindergarten program is also included in the accreditation with the Ohio Catholic School Accrediting Association and the Ohio Department of Education.
