Senior, Katilin Morse, signs letter of intent to play Div I softball for Northern Kentucky.
On January 31, 2012, Our Lady of the Elms
senior, Kaitlin Morse, signed her letter of intent to play Division I
softball for Northern Kentucky University.
Kaitlin Morse is a softball catcher who has been playing softball since
she was five years old. Her first travel team was with the Twinsburg
Tiger Elite and she has been playing travel ever since. “Travel
softball takes a commitment and love of the game, “says Elms Softball Head
Coach Frank Voss, “Kaitlin’s dedication and work ethic in both athletics
and academics has paid off.”
As stated by Elms Athletic Director, Kim Murray, when introducing Kaitlin,
“Kaitlin has shown and unmeasured determination, dedication and desire by
achieving success both in the classroom, on the basketball court and on
the softball field.” Kaitlin’s parents, Bill and Michelle Morse, beamed
with pride as their daughter signed the letter of intent. Also in
attendance were Kaitlin’s grandparents, brother, aunt and uncle.
Kaitlin states, “This is a dream come true.
I’m really looking forward to the travel and all the places I will get to
see.”
Senior, Jessica Pasternack, plays with Akron Symphony
Elms senior, Jessica Pasternak was a viola soloist in the Akron Symphony concert entitled "World Class Begins at Home" on January 21,2012. Jessi played Bach's Sixth Brandenburg Concerto with three other soloists. She has recently been honored as one of three national finalists in the 2011 American String Teacher’s Association National Solo Competition. In 2010 she won First Place in the Ohio Viola Society and Ohio String Teachers Association state-wide solo competitions

City of Akron First Night Banner Unveiling
The First Night Banner Unveiling is Akron's
largest community art installation and also the largest advent-style
calendar in the U.S.! View the dramatic unveiling of very own Elms student
artwork in Lock 3 Park as we countdown to the 13th annual First Night
Akron celebration! Following the Countdown, we will gather around the
Holidayfest Entertainment Stage as our Music Department students
perform and help the crowd get into the holiday spirit.

Culp, a senior at Our Lady of the Elms, has been named a
National Merit Scholar Semifinalist. The National Merit
Scholarship Program honors individual students who show exceptional
academic ability and encourage the pursuit of academic excellence.
Lisa Massello, Principal of Our Lady of the
Elms High School, says “Catherine is an exemplary student. She is
unassuming, yet makes significant impact on our school, community, in the
classroom, on stage, and on the golf course.” In addition to
Catherine’s academic achievements she serves at First Baptist Food
Distribution, the Akron Canton Foodbank, and has worked with the YMCA
Childwatch.
Elms
senior, Katie Brennan, named University of Notre Dame Hesburgh-Yusko
Scholar.
After a rigorous interview process that began with more than 700 talented applicants, Katie Brennan was one of 26 students chosen from 14 states and China. These students were chosen for their excellence in academic accomplishment, moral character, leadership, and commitment to service. Scholars will receive four years of funding of $25,000 each year toward the cost of attending the University of Notre Dame, and they also will receive four fully funded Summer Enrichment Experiences, designed to help them explore and develop their passions. The World Language Department is hosting its first
International Day!
On April 19, the entire school will be celebrated cultures from around the world. In the morning, students will be attended classes with an international theme designed by Elms teachers. For lunch, everyone, including parents and Board members, had the opportunity to sample foods from multiple cultures prepared by our very own lunch ladies. The afternoon brought fifth and sixth graders from area parochial schools to join in on our festivities before viewers move to the theater for performances, skits and a fashion show. The Commons was decorated with flags from the various ethnic backgrounds of our students. All in all, International Day was an educational, delectable and fun experience for students and guests alike.
· Elms ranked 12th in the State, 1st in Summit County, 1st in Cleveland Diocese and a Top Performer in Mathematics and Writing per 2010 Ohio Graduation Test results.
· Lisa Massello, Principal of Our Lady of the Elms High School, announced today that 8 Seniors have been named a Commended Students in the 2011 National Merit Scholarship Program. The 8 Commended Students, who represent 19% of the senior class are Rachael Kosco, Katrina Muller, Sophia Paul, Victoria Sampsel, Carrie Slivka, Ellen Turk, Margaret Waickman and Rachael Whitehouse. A Letter of Commendation from the school and National Merit Scholarship Corporation (NMSC), which conducts the program, will be presented by Miss Massello to these scholastically talented seniors.

· The Elm Leaf won 1st place for overall best newspaper in our school size category in the annual OSMA journalism convention at Kent State. An additional group award went to the entire Elm Leaf staff for staff editorial. Individual awards went to Sophia Paul '11, Chris Bellinger '10, Maggie Waickman '11, Meghan Caprez '11, Liz Sain, '11, Simone Satow '11, Kathleen Cawley '10, Katrina Muller '11, Ally Cubero '10 and Hae ji Yoon '11.
· Elms 2009 Ohio Graduation Test Score Results: 1st in Summit County, 3rd in NorthEast Ohio, 13th in State of Ohio!
· Class of 2010 earned over $6.7 million in scholarships!
